Andromeda was a beautiful princess in Greek mythology. Her mother, Queen Cassiopeia, claimed that she was more beautiful than the Nereids, the sea nymphs. This angered Poseidon, who sent a huge sea monster, Ceti, to destroy the coastal city of Andromeda. To appease the god's wrath, Andromeda offered herself as a sacrifice and was chained to a rock.
The hero Perseus, returning from the slaughter of the mermaid Medusa, saw Andromeda and freed her by killing the monster. The two married and lived happily ever after.
The story of Andromeda is a story of sacrifice, heroism and ultimately, love.
