Jocasta was queen of Thebes and wife of Laius. Her story is inextricably linked to the tragic myth of Oedipus. After receiving an oracle about the death of her son from Laius, Jocasta tried to prevent the fulfillment of the prophecy by abandoning the newborn infant. However, fate had other plans. Oedipus, unaware of his true identity, returned to Thebes, killed his father and married his mother, Jocasta. When the truth was revealed, Jocasta, crushed by pain and guilt, ended her life.
