Ariadne was the daughter of Minos, King of Crete, and Pasiphae. As a princess, she lived in the magnificent palaces of Knossos, but her life changed dramatically when she fell in love with the Athenian hero Theseus. To help Theseus kill the Minotaur and get out of the intricate Labyrinth, she gave him a magic thread, which led him safely out. However, despite his promises, Theseus abandoned her in Naxos. There, the god Dionysus found her and made her his immortal wife.
